As we conclude Fire Prevention Week, remember to check the date of your home smoke alarm, and if it is over TEN years it should be replaced. Make sure the smoke alarm has a fresh battery and test it often. A smoke alarm should be installed on every level of the home especially outside sleeping areas. Each home should have a carbon monoxide detector to alert you when deadly carbon monoxide gas may be present. Have a fire extinguisher readily available in the home and know how to use it. Practice E.D.I.T.H. (Exit Drill In The Home) with all family members, so when the alarm sounds everyone will know to get out of the building and meet outside. All of these fire safety measures can save lives. The East Whiteland Fire Company and the National Fire Protection Association want you to stay safe.
Sparky the Fire Dog says "Have a working smoke alarm in your home and when it sounds, get outside and stay outside. Call 9-1-1 and make sure all family members are accounted for at your meeting place"
