March 4, 2023

At 1930 hours (7:30 PM) on March 4th, 2023 the East Whiteland Fire Company was dispatched by the Chester County Department of Emergency Services to 202 Southbound, in the area of mile marker 15.7 for an auto accident - basic life support (BLS).

Due to multiple calls and further information that this accident may involve two motorcycles, the incident was upgraded to an auto accident - Advanced Life Support (ALS). This upgrade requested numerous other ALS Providers from the Malvern Fire Company (Station 4), and the Uwchlan Ambulance Corps (Station 87).

Upon Rescue 5 and Ambulance 5-1’s arrival on the scene, Captain 5B took 202 Command. On scene personnel confirmed the report of two motorcycles being involved in the accident. Due to the nature of the incident, 202 Command reported that all Southbound Lanes of 202 would be shut down for an unknown amount of time at the Swedesford Road (Route 401) offramp from 202.

Traffic 5, along with a fire police task force with units from the Goshen Fire Company (Station 54/56) and the West Whiteland Fire Company (Station 6) successfully shut down the road and rediverted vehicles around the shutdown roadway. This rediversion included the need to turn vehicles around in the southbound lane of 202, a tasking endeavor that fire police personnel did in a skillful and timely manner.

Thank you to Abel Brothers Towing for the assistance in vehicle removal and roadway cleanup.

Many, many thanks to Goshen and West Whiteland Fire Police for assisting with the road closure, clearing backed up traffic at the scene, and incident termination.

We were there on 202 southbound when it happened. It was terrible. Many prayers to everyone involved and their families. All task forces did an excellent job. Many many prayers going out to the people involved and families. I can not say this enough.
