The East Whiteland Fire Company would like to acknowledge and thank our Chester County Emergency Service Telecommunicators, and the many dispatchers and call takers that receive emergency calls all over our Nation, during National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week April 10 to 16. They not only receive emergency calls but provide many functions behind the scenes to make the job easier and better for responders on the street. The Chester County Police Radio went into service December 15, 1966, eventually bringing county police departments onto the same network. The Upper Main Line Fire Board went into service June 1, 1968, providing service to Berwyn, Paoli, Malvern, East Whiteland and West Whiteland Fire Companies with the first county fire dispatch operating from the Berwyn Firehouse. On October 1, 1971, the formation of the Chester County Fire Board took 44 fire companies on it's network from the Hazlett Building in West Chester providing a county fire dispatch, which the Main Line Companies eventually joined. The county emergency service communications center remained at the Chester County Government Services Building as the brand new 9-1-1 system was implemented during the 1990's. Chester County has the finest Department of Emergency Services Center in our Country.
