| At around 10:20 in the morning, Station 5 along with Medic 4 (Malvern) were alerted to Rt. 202 Northbound at mile marker 14.1 for an accident reported serious. Station 5 and Medic 4 quickly responded, and were advised by Chester County Emergency Dispatchers that 9-1-1 reports indicated that 1 patient had been ejected from their vehicle with an additional patient trapped. Police arriving on location confirmed these reports.
East Whiteland Fire Marshall FM-42A (L. White) arrived on location and confirmed the reports of one ejected, and advised of a second patient, but with negative entrapment. He also established "Rt. 202 Command."
Crews from Ambulance 5-1 and Engine 5-2 arrived and started patient stabilization and care. Due to the seriousness of the injuries of the patients, a medical helicopter was placed on standby, with Engine 5-5 establishing an Landing Zone (LZ) nearby.
Medics ultimately determined that the patients were not stable enough to be flown, so both were transported by ground to Paoli Hospital's (PMH) Trauma Center. Unfortunately, due to the extent of the injuries sustained, the first patient succumbed upon arrival to PMH.
Rt. 202 remained shut down in both directions until nearly 4 pm, to allow for clean up and accident reconstruction teams to investigate.
The East Whiteland Fire Company wishes passes condolences on to the victims and their family and friends of this horrible accident, especially during this holiday season.
Please drive safe and remember to always wear your seat belt!
