EMS/Ambulance Membership
Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) staff Station 5 to respond to medical calls in our community and surrounding areas. The East Whiteland Fire Company has two dedicated Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulances in which we transport patients in, as well as other apparatus which can respond as "first response" units.
EMTs are certified healthcare providers who are trained to treat and transport victims of medical emergencies. EMTs are trained to provide basic life support to victims. Skills include:
- Basic first aid
- Immobilization and splinting
- Bandaging
- Administering oxygen
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
- Defibrillation
- Extrication

- Airway management
EMT initial responsibilities include:
- Familiarization with apparatus (including equipment operation and location)
- Attending and completing a state accredited EMT school within the first year of membership
- Attendance at weekly training
- Responding to and operating professionally at all emergency scenes for various incidents
Additionally, all EMTs are expected to:

Junior Membership
The East Whiteland Fire Company is proud to have an active "Junior" program. Junior members are high school-aged members (ages 16 and 17) who serve as apprentices to our active crew. They gain experience and help participate on emergency scenes, but to a limited extent, as they are restricted in some activities and time as deemed by child labor laws set forth by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Junior EMTs undergo extensive training, including state accredited EMT school, and are closely supervised. Junior members are NOT able to be primary care givers in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania - they will only be able to complement an existing crew. In order to be eligible for Junior membership, the individual must be a student in good standing, be mentally and physically fit, have their parent's permission, and submit working papers.
