Construction that started six years ago is now complete with 3 travel lanes both north and south from King of Prussia to Business Route 30 in East Whiteland Township. The official dedication ceremony for the improved expressway was held Friday August 12th at 1:30 PM. Representing the East Whiteland Fire Company at the dedication was Special Fire Police Captain Tommy Cockerham and Lieutenant Randy Cockerham, both having much experience on Route 202 with traffic control during the construction process. Also attending the dedication ceremony, Pennsylvania Transportation Secretary Leslie Richards, Congressman Ryan Costello, Pennsylvania State Representative Duane Milne, Senator Andrew Dinniman, Chester County Commissioners Terence Farrell, Michelle Kichline and Kathi Cozzone, East Whiteland Township Supervisor Sue Drummond and representatives from PennDOT and Allan Myers Construction Company. The Route 202 Expressway facilitates about 70,000 vehicles per day and was an idea launched from the original West Chester By-Pass in 1958. Construction started on the original highway in 1962 and took about 6 years to complete, changing the landscape of East Whiteland Township and central Chester County.
