By Public Information Officer Michael Schon
January 23, 2012

At approximately 14:39 hrs (2:39), Station 5 and Medic 4 (Malvern) were alerted to the area of King Rd and Frazer Rd for an accident with reported entrapment.

Deputy 5 (E. Nowaczyk) and Chief 5 (K. Hurley) arrived on location and advised of one vehicle into a telephone pole with the driver of the vehicle trapped, with two additional occupants to be checked by EMS. Ambulance 5-1 and Medic 4 arrived and began gaining access to the patient and starting patient care. Chief 5 established King Road Command.

Engine 5-2 and Engine 5-5 arrived and began stabilizing the vehicle and working on extrication of the patient. Crews started by removing the roof to allow EMS to have better access to the patient.

Due to the extent of damage to the vehicle, King Rd. Command requested at 14:49 hrs (2:49 pm) TAC 4 to the scene to assist along with a second ambulance from Station 4.

Firefighters from East Whiteland and Malvern worked to remove the roof, the passenger door for access, as well as displacement of the dash which was impinging on the driver's legs and lap.

Finally at 15:31 hrs (3:31), the victim was successfully extricated from the vehicle.

Ambulance 5-1 and Ambulance 4-1 both transported patients to Paoli Memorial Hospital in stable condition.
