On Monday evening August 29, 2016, members of the East Whiteland Fire Company conducted training on making access to the roof on a specialized fire department roof simulator at the Malvern Fire Company. Making access to the roof on a burning building is a very important component of structural firefighting. Firefighters use a special saw to ventilate heat and smoke through the roof. It can also be dangerous, therefore constant training is necessary. Photos courtesy of East Whiteland Firefighter Gary McCusker. Area fire departments are looking for volunteers to help in many different functions. Contact your local fire department to find out how you can help your community.
