On Monday March 21st, East Whiteland Fire Company hosted several groups of school students to learn about fire safety. Fire safety education is very important so that children of all ages will know what to do if an emergency occurs, as well as the importance of the smoke alarm at home, the home exit drill, and of course our good friend Sparky from SparkySchoolHouse.org. Thanks to everyone involved including our own staff here at East Whiteland Fire Company, Career Captain Loren Nafziger, Career Firefighter Tom Renfroe, Career Firefighter John Porter, Carer Firefighter Dave Hicks, Career Firefighter Gus Lavin, Volunteer Firefighter Kyle O'Brien, and Volunteer Fire Police Officer Tony DiPiano (photos). Firefighter Dave put his fire coat and gear on to show the children that even though it may look a little scary, all of his gear is for his protection when there is a fire. As always, we urge everyone to have working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in the home, plan and practice a home exit drill with the entire family to exit the building in a real emergency and call 9-1-1. To learn more about fire safety programs, to volunteer or to donate to our building fund...contact the East Whiteland Fire Company from our website, call 610 644-8558, or stop by on Monday evenings during our training here at our station, 205 Conestoga Road (Route 401) just east of Route 202 in East Whiteland Township. Stay Fire Safe this Spring!
