Firefighters were first called to the scene on the morning of Monday, December 29th and remained there until late that afternoon. Firefighters were called again on Tuesday, December 30th in the morning hours and remained there until the late afternoon. On the morning of December 31st, firefighters were again contacted to respond. During the operations, master streams were placed into service while heavy machinery pulled the pile apart. Cold temperatures and thick mud challenged firefighters during the operation. Access to the site was limited and a path had to be cut through a heavy wooded area to advance supply lines. A substantial amount of LDH had to be laid to support the operations. Thousands of gallons of water were needed to support operationsThe deep seated fire created a large amount of smoke to the surrounding areas.
