Every Monday night, the members of the East Whiteland fire company come together for training. This past Monday, firefighters practiced vehicle rescue skills. Members reviewed air bags and refreshed themselves on how to set them up and use them safely. Upon finishing the review of the airbags, members we all moved to the rear parking lot of the firehouse where company officers set up a practice scenario. Firefighters encountered a situation where one vehicle was overturned and a victim was trapped underneath. Firefighters had to walk around the vehicle and figure out the best way to remove the victim safely. As practiced earlier in the evening, firefighters determined airbags were the best course of action to extricate the patient from underneath the vehicle. Firefighters set up the airbag system to lift the car, and cribbing to stabilize the vehicle, and safely removed the patient from under the vehicle.

It was a very successful training where everyone involved learned a lot. Thank you to the officers that took the time to set this training up!
