The East Whiteland Fire Company responded Monday at 4:44 p.m. to a report of a dryer fire inside a residence on Conestoga Road (Route 401) in East Whiteland Township. A second upgraded dispatch reported smoke filling the house, which brought assistance from the Malvern and Berwyn Fire Companies. Engine 5-1 arrived and provided a hose line up the long driveway with other apparatus staging on the roadway and ready to activate the hose to a hydrant. Fortunately the situation was determined to be under control. Fire Police closed Route 401 at Phoenixville Pike and Bacton Hill Road, due to apparatus on the roadway and anticipation of hydrant activation. Thanks to motorists for their cooperation during the incident.
