After several days of warning about severe storms on Monday, the East Whiteland Fire Company was prepared and ready with additional personnel at Station 5. It all started at 1:33 p.m. with wires sparking on the Rail Road behind 286 Lancaster Ave, which was caused by high winds prior to the storm. During the peak of the storm, we were dispatched for a traffic accident at Swedesford Road and Phoenixville Pike, with Ambulance 5-1, Engine 5-2, Deputy 5, Traffic 5 and Fire Police. While at the scene Fire Police were dispatched to assist Kimberton Fire Company for a traffic accident on Yellow Springs Road north of Valley Hill Road in Charlestown Township at 4:48 p.m. At 5:15 p.m. the company was dispatched for wires sparking at Route 401 and Spring Valley Road. At 6:53 p.m. Fire Police were dispatched to assist East Whiteland Township Police for traffic lights out of service due to the storm on Route 401 at Moores Road, and also Route 401 at Route 202. Traffic had to be directed manually at both locations while service personnel worked to repair the traffic light system. Fire Police left the scene shortly before 11 p.m. as the traffic lights were back to normal operation. Thanks to all of our personnel for a great job during and after the storm, and special thanks to Deputy Chief Mark Koenig for coordinating efforts to have traffic lights repaired and operational without any further delay.
