CLEAR SNOW AWAY FROM HYDRANTS:
One of the most important functions you can do, to help us help you, during a snow storm is to clear away a 3 ft. area around your nearest hydrant. In the event of fire, having fire personnel clear snow before attaching hose lines to the hydrant can take extra time. You can even establish a safety team by clearing hydrants in your neighborhood or street, all in the interest of public safety.

KEEP GENERATORS AND POWER EQUIPMENT OUTSIDE:
In the event of a power outage, keep generators and power equipment outside. Using this equipment inside a building or in a garage can build up dangerous carbon monoxide gas which can be harmful and deadly. Do not connect power from a generator directly into a home electrical outlet as this can cause a dangerous feedback to linemen working on nearby power lines. A safe relay system installed by a qualified electrician would be the only exception.

YIELD TO SNOW PLOWS:
Give the right-of-way and yield to snow plows and highway maintenance vehicles on highways and roadways. It is a difficult job, and even more difficult with obstructions in the way such as traffic or disabled vehicles. Our highway crews do a great job and they can use our courtesy as much as possible.

WATCH FOR EMERGENCY VEHICLES:
Be sure to slow down and provide room for emergency personnel and vehicles operating on the highway. If you encounter an emergency vehicle while traveling on the roadway, pull to the right and stop when possible to allow the emergency vehicle to pass.
