Joining the fire department as a volunteer for a young person at age 16 can be a wonderful and exciting experience. There are strict state laws regarding the involvement and safety of a junior firefighter, but they gain an advanced learning opportunity that can prepare them for their future involvement in emergency services. After joining the company a mentor is assigned to the young member and more senior members provide guidance. Through the many years of the East Whiteland Fire Company, many junior firefighters have continued on to provide a very important service to their community. Junior firefighter Jake Wilson joined our company and is participating in the Octorara Area School District Public Safety Program, attending the program half day, and participating in academic studies for the other half. Jake is in the process of being certified in National Fire 1, and will later be taking courses to become a state certified Emergency Medical Technician, assisting the EMS division. He will graduate with over 40 certifications and an immense knowledge of the Fire and EMS services. We are very proud of Jake and all our young members for their interest and dedication to help those in need. Training is available for all new members.
