Early Morning 2-Alarm Fire in Charlestown

At 0444 hours (4:44 am) Station 61 (Kimberton) along with Stations 68 (Valley Forge) and Truck 65 (Phoenixville FD) and a MICU from Station 67 (West End - Phoenixville) were alerted to the 100 block of Stewarts Court in Charlestown Township for a reported building fire. Deputy 61 arrived on location and found a 5 unit townhome with the first two (2) units fully involved in fire, with the fire rapidly extending into the third and fourth units. Chief 61 (Pollinger) arrived on location, assumed command, and requested a second alarm.

A second alarm was struck adding the ballance of the Phoenixville Fire Department (65) and added Stations 5, 47 (Lionville), and MICU 85 (Trappe) to assist.

Firefighters worked agressivly to cut off the fire before it could spread to other units.

One (1) firefighter sustained minor injuries, and no homeowners were hurt.

The fire is under investigation by the County Fire Marshall's office and the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Investigators. Early estimates put damages at around $1.6 million.

All units cleared the scene by aproximetly 1015 hours (10:15 am).
