At 1430 hrs (2:30 pm) on Saturday, April 27, Station 52 (West Chester - Good Will) was dispatched to the area of Greenhill Road and Ashbridge Road for a smoke investigation outside. The caller reported a large smoke column to the east of their location.

West Chester crews arrived and ultimately discovered 3 acres of woods on fire. Station 51 (West Chester - First West Chester), Brush 6 (West Whiteland) and Tanker 39 (West Bradford) were alerted to assist as Phoenixville Pike Command was established.

As the fire spread to approximately 5 acres, a brush task force was alerted bringing numerous stations and resources from around the county to the scene, including Brush 5.
